Updates from Kristy’s Desk — #AmReadingChallenge WEEK 4 Giveaway

KCambron - Home Office

Autumn is almost here.

Can you believe it? Our kids start school TOMORROW. (Who else is shell-shocked that school now starts in July?) And as a gal who love LOVES her autumn months, I’m already looking out to what’s next for our family. We’ll have soccer games, pumpkin patch trips and S’mores to roast over a fire pit. We’ve got school uniforms to iron and homework to complete. And all the while, we’ve got some exciting book happenings to share — from a new book, to speaking engagements and book club visits on the calendar.

Here we go… News on our WEEK 4 — #AmReadingChallenge and UPDATES from my good old writing desk!

Freebies & Fun: Make sure you check out the Freebies & Fun page on my website, as I’ll keep you updated on #giveaways we’ve got going on throughout the year, and will share mega-awesome sales coming up. In fact — starting TODAY, HarperCollins Christian Publishing has an eBook sale — epic love stories for just $2.99 including #TheButterflyandtheViolin — to carry you through the end of summer! Happy beach reading, indeed. 😉

What I’m Working On: If you hang around the blog, you know I’ve just recently finished writing THE RINGMASTER’S WIFE (HarperCollins, 2016) — a Jazz Age Entertainers book on the lives of John and Mable Ringling, and the circus in late 1920s America! I’m sooooo excited to share upcoming news about this next book — such as cover art and when/where YOU can join our official launch Street Team for a chance to snag an Advance Reader’s Copy (ARC) in early 2016. Keep an eye on Goodreads and Facebook for updates we’ll share this fall!

Where We Can Meet: Stop by my Speaking & Events page on the website to find out where I’ll be jet-setting this fall. I’d love to meet up with you at the ACFW Conference (where I’ll be co-facilitating a workshop this Sept.) and at any of the other spots I’ll be stopping by to speak this fall/winter. Also — check out where the rest of The GROVE Girls will be appearing throughout 2015, over on We hope to see you soon!

#AmReadingChallenge WEEK 4 – The Wedding Dress: We’ve made it to WEEK 4 of our summer #AmReadingChallenge — and we’re reading The Wedding Dress by Rachel Hauck. I’ve wanted to read this one for quite some time. Not only is it a topic that thrills me — romance,  history,  a stunning dress and small town charm — but I’m ready to fall in love with this story for the gorgeous cover alone. 😉 (Plus — this eBook is on SALE for $2.99 right now! What luck for us, eh?)

As a reminder, this is our last week to read together. You don’t have to officially sign up — just read along and chat with us on social media!

  • I’ll post a weekly discussion thread here on the blog (and on Facebook), so we can discuss the books together. Be sure to use the #AmReadingChallenge hashtag on social media, so we don’t miss any of the discussion posts!
  • We have a #Giveaway this final week. Answer the question below to enter this week’s giveaway: A DVD copy of a classic romance — Jane Eyre (1944) & a $5 Starbucks card
  • To enter, add a comment to this post between 7/27/15 and 8/2/15 with an answer to the following questions:

Would you ideal wedding gown be vintage-inspired or a designer original?

Our winner’s name will be drawn by Monday 8/3/15 and announced here on the blog. So keep on enjoying your final days of summer — and HAPPY READING!

So that’s it — the bookish FUN we’ve got coming up in the weeks ahead! 😉

And as we all move forward toward the busy holiday season, I’d love to stay engaged with you! Let’s support one another in our daily walk with Christ… If you’re still verse-mapping with me in the #VerseMapClub, please continue to share how in-depth study of the Word of God is blessing your life. We’ll get through the “walking” together.

With JOY in the journey,

  1. My husband and I have been married 27 years. We were young and money was very limited. I was able to get a lovely wedding dress by Jessica Mcclintock. I do however love vintage inspired wedding gowns.

  2. I love the vintage inspired look with lace capped sleeves and silk covered buttons! I chose a simple strapless dress with little embellishment for my wedding 4 years ago tho. Funny how our tastes change over time.

  3. Definitely vintage. Because why? Because I’m definitely vintage… but no corset or bustles. Maybe turn of the century, mutton sleeves and all that. Or even a mid-century circle skirt (which is what I wanted for my first wedding, but the moms talked me into something else.)

  4. Vintage no doubt. I just finished a lovely book called Five Brides. 1950s. Five roommates go in together to buy one designer wedding gown and each wear it on their wedding day. Fictional but based on an actual event.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

      1. Kristy, I am looking forward to your Ringling story, The Ringmaster’s Wife. Have you been to Baraboo, Wisconsin, to the winter quarters ~ now a tourist attraction? Circus performers under the big top and the intricate carvings on the circus wagons; a fun day for families.
I would choose a vintage-inspired wedding gown with Irish lace ~ and would love to have the 1944 copy of Jane Eyre on DVD (…and a chai tea latte! yum)! Thanks for the offerings. I shared your link on my Facebook newspage, and on twitter Kathleen ~ Lane Hill House

      2. Kathleen – How many years now have we been chatting online? It’s SO good to see you here on the page! 😉 Made my night. Thanks for sharing too.

I have not ventured north to Baraboo because we opted to spend time in Sarasota instead. (The Ringlings spent most of their time in NJ and Sarasota, FL by the time the 1920s rolled around.) I got to spend 3 days at the Ca’d’Zan mansion, looking in every corner of every room, and spent hours researching onsite. It was a DREAM come true. I can’t wait to share it with everyone! (P.S. I love Mable Ringling after writing this book on her. Seriously. I wish I could sit and have a cup of tea with her.) Hugs!!

  5. I think it would be neat to wear a vintage-inspired gown. Thanks for the chance to win. And school starting in July? I thought August was early! I’m certainly looking forward to autumn. Tired of the humidity.

  6. Probably vintage. I wore my mom’s gown, but it’s a winter gown, so that would limit my girls wedding dates 🙂 Anything modest would be nice these days!

  7. I love the idea of a vintage-inspired wedding dress, especially one that has personal significant meaning to me. I love your reading challenge! “The Wedding Dress” is a wonderful book! Thanks for the giveaway too. 😃

  8. Hello Kristy, I have been married for almost 30 years. We got married in city hall, young and broke. If I could do it all over again I would choose a Vintage Inspired Wedding Gown. Thank you

  9. I love the 1944 Jane Eyre 🙂 My daughter and I love watching Say Yes to the Dress. My favorite styles are the more vintage looking ones though some of those designer dresses are gorgeous! I missed last week’s challenge, but I am going to read this one 🙂 Summer has gone too quickly! My son is going to be a senior. It makes my stomach hurt when I think about it! My daughter is a junior in college, but she is commuting. Time flies!

      1. Yay! I’ll email you soon. I loved this book. I’m so glad you did this challenge since all 3 that I read are new faves. I am still waiting on the other to come in at the library…..

  10. I would definitely choose vintage. Some of the most beautiful gowns are those worn by brides in years gone by. Their beauty is timeless!
Thanks, Kristy, for another wonderful post.

  11. I can’t wait for the Ringermaster’s Wife!!! Currently reading a Sparrow in Terezin 🙂 I have had so much fun with #AmReadingChallenge!
