Video Café — Coffee Break & #Giveaway with James L. Rubart

5Bonjour, Friends ~ Welcome back to the Video Café this week! This is the 2nd of (3) coffee break guests in this month of November. It’s wonderful to share a coffee break with friend (and an author whose writing my husband happens to love) author, James L. Rubart! (And don’t forget to stay around to the end of the coffee break for a #Giveaway at the end of our post…)

If you’re new to the Video Café, Click HERE to see what it’s all about. But if you’ve been here before, you know how it works. Grab your chair, morning coffee, and fuzzy slippers — here we go!

BONJOUR — Welcome to the Café, Jim! It’s awesome to have another first-time guest here with us. We’ll dive right in with our usual first question – where’s your cafe today, and what are you drinking?

“Gotta kill the coffee taste with this…” Ha ha! I usually do that with coconut and mocha in my coffee. Similar, uh, caffeine-killing going on?

Now that we’re settled in with our Disney mugs (love that, by the way), could you share a short devotion with us? What Scripture is really ministering to you right now?

We love new books around here. Can you tell us about your new book, The Five Times I Met Myself

After that introduction, this book just shot to the top of my TBR (To Be Read) pile. (Yes, I already have a copy of it. It’s waiting – crying now — to be read!) And I would like to go back to my 23 year-old self and tell her a thing or two…

Just for fun (because we know authors are super interesting folks anyway) — tell us something your readers might not know about you.

Um… Extreme level of awesomeness reached in this chat! That’s the 1st ever time one of our guests has actually included such an incredible adventure right here on film! Thanks for sharing that monumental step in your life. We’re already feeling more brave, right? (Almost… unless it’s conquering a fear of spiders! Shudder.)

More fun — what’s your favorite movie? (And we’re nice here, so we’ll let you choose more than one if you can’t decide.)

Our family watches one of those movies every year too! In fact, we’ve already pulled it out of the movie cabinet and dusted it off for the upcoming holiday season. 🙂 And something else our families have in common? FAVORITE TV SHOW: My husband and I never missed LOST either. Best show ever!

Speaking of fun stuff, authors are known to have some funny moments here and there. (I once heard of a group of  friends who were taking photographs at the 2014 ACFW Carol Awards, and this author gal named Mary decided to pop in for an epic photo bomb. Who are those guys anyway?)

2014 ACFW Gala fun: James L. Rubart, Mary Weber, Kristy Cambron, Ashley Clark

So what about you? Have a funny author moment you’d like to share to try and top the photo?

You win. (Ha ha ha!)

Jim – Thanks so much for spending your morning coffee break with us. It’s been fun to get to hear more about you and your family, and your desire to bring readers into a closer walk with God through story. We hope you come back with your next release — and bring more funny stories and life-changing inspiration!

(NOTE: Friends – Please go to Jim’s website and read about his journey to publication. Thank goodness his wonderful wife, Darci, felt called to pray and fast — for him! Ha ha! You’ll love the story.)

JamesJames L. Rubart is the best-selling and Christy award winning author of ROOMS, BOOK OF DAYS, THE CHAIR, SOUL’S GATE, and MEMORY’S DOOR. He’s also a professional speaker and owner of Barefoot Marketing which helps businesses and authors make more coin of the realm.

In his free time he dirt bikes, hikes, golfs, takes photos, and occasionally does sleight of hand. No, he doesn’t sleep much. He lives with his amazing wife and two sons in the Pacific Northwest and still thinks he’s young enough to water ski like a madman.

Jim is pleased to offer a copy of The Five Times I Met Myself to one reader in the cafe. This Giveaway is for US residents only, and runs from 11/13/15 – 11/19/15. Enter by adding a comment to answer this question (during the giveaway dates):

  • Jim mentioned one fear he tackled head-on, and how it changed the way he thought about fears in the future. What’s one fear you’ve had and what did you do to try and overcome it?

We’ll draw one name and announce the winner on this post by 11/20/2015. And stick around, because we’ll have more authors visiting the Café through the end of the year. And in the meantime, stop by the Freebies & Fun page on my website — I’ll keep you up-to-date on the active #Giveaways we have running all the time!

With JOY & coffee talk,

    1. I did too, 15 years ago. I was asked to train a new-hire class at our company and because I was scared, I jumped in to make myself do it. Now, I love it! Go figure. 😉 Hugs, Caryl

  1. I am afraid of heights so climbing to the top of a silo was a real challenge for me!
Thank you for another great Video Cafe entry!

  2. Loved this! Your cafe is always a must read and trust me, I don’t have a lot of time to read blogs. Can’t wait to win this book. LOL. Okay. One fear I overcame: heights. Once I flew over the Atlantic Ocean, my fear dissipated. I’m no longer afraid of them. Yay, God!

    1. Karla ~ I’m SO happy you like it that much! A quick 5-min. coffee break with some favorite authors — what’s not to love? Ha ha! (P.S. You are a brave, heights-fearless woman!)

    2. CONGRATS, Karla! You’re the winner of the Video Cafe drawing for a copy of Jim’s new book! Please email your full name and mailing address to: kcambronauthor(at)Gmail(dot)com.

  3. I admire Jim’s courage; I have the same fear and I am not sure I am willing to do what he did! But I also think some fears are reasonable–spiders! We grow them big here in the Pacific Northwest (giant house spiders!) and they are to be feared! Perhaps the one real fear I have though, is meeting new people. I try to say, “hello” and shake hands with a stranger, when I am around someone I don’t know. I would prefer to turn and walk away, but I force myself to reach out instead.

    1. Those are very real fears, Claudia. Spiders = SHUDDER. I scream and grab the can of Raid. And you’re right — meeting new people is super difficult for me too. Maybe we’re both introverts… ? Hugs!! It’s not scary in a virtual space!

    1. Oh yes – elevators are not a favorite of mine either. (I’m wondering just how many fears I have after reading all these comments! Ha ha! I’m identifying with everyone I guess.) 🙂
