Video Café — Coffee Break & #Giveaway with Rachel Hauck

1Bonjour, Friends ~ Welcome back to the Video Café for our last coffee break before the holiday season! I’m pleased to welcome super-chic friend and USA Today Bestselling author, Rachel Hauck – for her first time in the cafe.  (As usual – stick around to the end of the coffee break for our usual #Giveaway…)

If you’re new to the Video Café, Click HERE to see what it’s all about. But if you’ve been here before, you know how it works. Grab your cuppa — let’s chat with Rachel!

BONJOUR — Welcome to the Café, dear Rachel! I might be taking my life into my hands here because I know we differ on college football loyalties, but here we go: where’s your cafe and what are you drinking today?

You are the coolest, Rachel. (#GoIrish!) Whew — now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s sneak in our devotional time first. What Scripture is ministering to you today, and why?

My heart is BURSTING over here! We are mark-up-your-Bible-sisters! Your Song of Solomon book is beautifully marked, reminding us about the distinction of Christ’s love for the bride. And we just LOVE the Word too. We’re in it, lady!

So, we know you love your Bible. What other book do you love – favorite novel for right now?

We must know – what’s up next for you? (Hint: Please tell us about THE WEDDING CHAPEL!)

So many feels…

Love the dual timelines. And zoning in on the living we do through the interruptions in life — they paint such an authentic portrait of how love can be.

We’re all friends here now, Rachel. Friends share secrets. So, can you share one with us?

Young love! Royals! Christmas…! Ah — the romance reader’s Kryptonite.

We’re loving the reveal of your writerly secrets in between sips of coffee. 🙂 Please – make it last? One more super-secret peek at what’s up next after the “next”?

Between the fact that we’re actually royal, hearing about A ROYAL CHRISTMAS WEDDING and  THE WEDDING SHOP, I’m swooning. And then… I saw THIS!!!!!

Dear Rachel, you are the BEST. And I know, one day, you will join me in the bliss of fandom when we can get you into Irish green. (#GoIrish!) Until then, I remain yours most dedicated in friendship and fellowship. We’d love to have you back in the cafe one day soon. (And — I get a hug at next year’s ACFW conference!)

RRachel Hauck is a former corporate grinder who realized she preferred facing the blank pages of her next novel rather than getting a regular paycheck.

A USA Today bestselling author, she’s an Ohio State grad and avid football fan. She considers herself a second-rate arm chair quarterback. She loves sandwiches and chips, Diet Coke (decaf please) and believes Matthew’s final proposal to Mary in Downton Abbey Series 2 is the most romantic scene on television. (Kristy Cambron agrees.)

She lives in central Florida with her husband and their pets; a mini schnauzer, Miss Indpendent, and Hepzibah, a stray cat who wandered into their backyard.

Rachel is pleased to offer a copy of The Wedding Chapel to one reader in the cafe. This Giveaway is for US residents only, and runs from 11/20/15 – 11/25/15. Enter by adding a comment to answer this question (during the giveaway dates):

  • Rachel talked about her big LOVE for God’s Word. How do you prefer to spend time in the Word — devotions, daily prayer, verse mapping (like me!), or another method of study?

We’ll draw one name and announce the winner on this post right after the Thanksgiving holiday. (Gobble, gobble!) And stick around, because we’re bound to have a holiday giveaway or two in the Café through the end of the year. And in the meantime, stop by the Freebies & Fun page on my website — I’ll keep you up-to-date on the active #Giveaways we have running all the time!

With JOY & coffee talk,

  1. Devotionals provide me with scripture and insights to help me apply them to my life. Thanks for another great interview!

  2. Sometimes I like to just read and other times I like to take notes as I read so I can look back at them when reading further and also so I can note any questions I might have so I can go back and find the answers. Thanks for the giveaway!

  3. Loved the videos, Rachel and Kristy – thank you!! I enjoyed getting a touch of Rachel’s personality and learning more about her writing.

I spend time in the Word through prayer (throughout the day, wherever I am), devotionals, and scripture. Christian music also speaks to me loudly – it’s a passion that rivals that of reading for me.

I’d love to read ‘The Wedding Chapel’ – I love the storyline and haven’t read any of Rachel’s books. Blessings!!

    Shared post!!

  4. Loved the videos, Rachel & Kristy – thank you!! It’s actually the first time I’ve seen/heard a video of Rachel, I enjoyed getting a touch of her personality and learning more about her writing and books.

I’d love to read ‘The Wedding Chapel’ – thanks for the giveaway opportunity!!

    Shared post!!

  5. I think my comment disappeared!! Sorry if this posts twice….

I start my day with a devotion using RBC’s Daily Bread & our church has reading through the Bible each year that I participate in. I also pray before I read His word so that my heart is open to hear what He has to say to me. I pray several times a day & sometimes He’ll drop a hymn in my mind to lift me up. I LOVE that when it happens 🙂
Thanks for the chance to win a copy of “The Wedding Chapel”, that cover just blows me away, it’s so gorgeous! I always enjoy the Video Cafe chat and all the authors you feature…thanks!

  6. I love devotionals and I will use the Bible app to do reading plans for anywhere from 4 to 30 days. I get The Word for You Today delivered to my inbox every day and often I will go deeper into God’s word when a certain verse tugs at my heart. I have tried verse mapping, but I am still a bit of a struggler there. I typically also like to read several chapters of the Old and New Testament every day and again, when something really seems to draw something out in me, I dig deeper. I will use various sites to look up translations, but not every time.
I am really excited about Christmas because my 20-year-old son promised to read the chronological Bible New Living Translation with me through the year as my Christmas present. That will be the best time ever. 🙂

  7. I start my day reading God’s word! I use RBC’s Daily Bread for my devotion & our church participates in reading through the Bible each year. I pray before I start reading so that if He has something special to say to me, my heart would be open 🙂 It just doesn’t feel right to NOT start my day out like this! I find myself praying several times a day & sometimes God will put a hymn in my head that lifts me up.
Thanks for the chance to win a copy of “The Wedding Chapel”, the cover just blows me away, it’s so gorgeous! Fun cafe chat, thanks for sharing 🙂

  8. I like to begin and end the day with devotional and Bible reading. I also usually pray during my morning shower and whenever I can (or think of it) during the day.
Thanks for these videos. I enjoy reading Rachel’s books and it’s fun to hear of the ones to come.

  9. Thanks for the giveaway! I enjoy daily prayer time, and reading some old testament, psalms or proverbs, and then some new testament. I am working on praying scripture over me and my family. 🙂

  10. Kristy, due to inspiration from YOU, I really enjoy verse mapping. I’m also doing a more broad read-through-the-Bible-in-a-year study with my daughter. The information in our study Bibles provides so much background to each chapter, and helps give a more thorough understanding of His Word.

Rachel, what a joy to get to know you better. Your book sounds intriguing and the cover art is so lovely! I enjoyed sipping and listening today.

  11. Spending time with God is a first in the morning must for me. I’ve committed to read through the Bible every year and I’m in my fifth year 🙂 I love how God shows me something new each time. But my time with God doesn’t end there. I spend time in praise (belting it out in the car), in prayers (sometimes all day long-3 teenagers=survival) throughout the day. God is my constant companion. Great interview!!

    1. Hi Rachel Dodson — CONGRATS! You’re the winner of Rachel Hauck’s Video Cafe! Kindly email your street address to: kcambronauthor(at)gmail(dot)com and we’ll ensure your book is dropped in the mail. Enjoy!! ❤

  12. I LOVE your video cafe guests and format! What a fun way to get to know authors and be inspired to read additional books!

I find that my best Bible study comes during the homework I do for planned Bible studies with my church. I like the continuity of studying through a Bible book or using an author’s book about a Bible topic or a book of the Bible.

    1. I love having Video Cafe guests too! It came out of this idea that I didn’t always have time to read the author interviews I wanted to (while at work etc.), but a 5 min. video I could manage. And so… now we’re going on year #3 for the cafe. Thanks SO much for stopping by!

  13. It is so cool what was said about your wanting to face the blank pages of a book rather than having a regular paycheck! You are a brave person. Great that you followed your heart. I am looking forward to reading your book. sonja dot nishimoto at gmail dot com

    1. Sonja ~ I was also moved that Rachel said that! I left corporate America in 2014 and LOVE the journey God has our family on. Rachel was/is one of my inspirations to keep writing, to keep pursuing the calling God’s placed on our lives! ; )

  14. I love my morning devotional times reading the Word, praying, and reflecting. But throughout the day I keep in constant prayer or have praise songs running through my head to keep me focused on what truly matters.
