Video Café — Coffee Break & #Giveaway with Becky Wade

1It’s Friday – another morning for a coffee break in the Video Café! I’m pleased to welcome sweet author friend Becky Wade to the cafe today.  (Stick around after our coffee break for our usual #Giveaway…)

If you’re new to the Video Café, Click HERE to see what it’s all about. But if you’ve been here before, you know how it works. Grab a steamy mug — let’s chat with Becky!

BONJOUR Becky — Welcome to the Café! We are so glad you’ve joined us on this lovely May Friday! As with all of our chats, we love to know the basics… So, where’s your cafe and just what are you drinking today?

One thing you said went straight to my heart: in the British tradition. (Yay! We are kindred spirits, my amiable friend.) And the fact that we both like to sneak away from the busy family time in our “hub” (aka – kitchen, living room etc.) and sneak off to write in a quiet coffee shop corner… it makes me smile that we both do that!

We always like to share a short devotional time together in the cafe. Can you tell us what Scripture is really ministering to you today, and why?

Oh, my joy! I am verse mapping through the same book right now — so loving Romans. The passage you read from The Message translation was so beautiful (and timely, I think, for this time of year). As moms, sisters in Christ, friends… it can be a tough battle to fight comparison. I love that you’re talking so candidly about it.

We’re readers here too, Becky. We love the opportunity to talk with authors one-on-one about their latest releases. Can you share the heart behind Her One and Only with us — and maybe give us a sneaky-peek at what’s next for you?

Aaaaahhh! A sassy, girl body guard character… we love it. So fun! We can’t wait to get to know Drew and Gray, and follow their story.

One of the things we love here in the cafe is that we get real about this writing life. What’s it like for you? Are there any aspects of writing that can be difficult?

Anyone else furiously nodding through that entire clip? Whether we’re all writers here or not, the first part of a new journey can be scary, exciting, tough to understand, with all the feels that we experience along the way. (Though, I admit that I write very out of sequence, so I usually write the last chapter of a novel in the first quarter of my “fingers to keyboard” time. Ha ha! I think I just confused myself!)

Last thing… We love books, coffee, your writing, and Scripture here. However, we also love to EAT. (At least I do.) Please share your super-secret-go-to-favorite-of-all-time writing snack with us? (We need recommendations!)

YES!!!!!!! We knew we loved you. Now, even more, Ms. Chocolate!

Thanks for stopping by today. It was a pleasure — and I’ll hug you in person at the ACFW conference to say how much we’ve enjoyed our time with you. Xoxo — and chocolate!

  • What is your tried-and-true-go-to-favorite snack? (I’m uh… asking for a friend here.) Can you help a couple of authors out and share your fav thing that we might not have considered to be a writing power food?

We’ll draw one name of those who comment on this post during the dates listed and announce the winner on this post 5/27/16. And be sure to keep the coffee brewing, because we’ll more giveaways  in the Café this summer — including some for The Ringmaster’s Wife!

  1. What a fabulous video cafe! I’m looking forward to meeting Becky at the Christian Fiction Readers Retreat :). It’ll be so much fun!!
Favorite snack? I think I probably have like 57 and chocolate is always a staple, but another one I really enjoy is cheese and crackers. I can snack on that for days!

    1. Hey Jamie ~ YES! I actually love cheese and crackers too. (Though, I am trying to stick to my gluten-free life over here. I need to find some
      good GF crackers!) 😉

    2. Hi Jamie ~ CONGRATS! We drew the winner and it’s YOU! We’ll contact you soon to get you your copy of Becky’s book. Blessings, & thanks for stopping by! 😉

  2. Dove dark chocolate is nice for a treat. At our house, we also enjoy making drop scones with real butter, mini chocolate chips, and orange zest. Yum!

  3. I love the videos, especially the one where Becky was talking about the scripture in Romans and also where she was talking about her difficulty beginning new books. I love the Porter series and am looking forward to reading this last book. My go-to snacks are tea–various varieties, and the small York peppermint patties.

  4. Chocolate–most anything chocolate. Sorry it’s not very original! 😀 Thanks for the fun interview. This book is on my TBR list. It would be so much fun to win it!

  5. I already have a copy and am really enjoying it! Love the big macho football player being guarded by a tiny little slip,of a girl.
My favorite snack at the moment is called Energy snack. It has walnuts, pecans, sesame sticks, honey peanuts and almonds. So yummy!

  6. Currently my favorite snack is a small (.77 oz.) bag of popped sea salt hummus chips (Weight Watchers sells them.) dipped in hummus. The crunchiness and saltiness of the chips satisfies a need while the hummus makes the snack filling. Thanks for sharing with us, Becky.

  7. Sugar Cookies! Just plain, nothing fancy and I make them myself. Like most people who are addicted to chocolate, I have a Sugar Cookie addiction. It is the reason why I don’t leave a whole batch nearby. I lay a few (depends on what I’m doing and how big I made them) on a plate eat those. I am weak however, I will sometimes go back and refill that plate. After Sugar Cookies it would be Oatmeal Raisin. Have a lovely day!

  8. Oh my goodness, when I began writing my dissertation I felt the same. I struggled to put even the first word on the page – but I did!!! Go to snacks for me – puffed popcorn (like Pirate Booty) and chocolate (of course)!
    Loved this session <#=3
