Video Café + #Giveaway with Varina Denman

V 2Bonjour, Friday – and welcome to the Video Café
! I’m pleased to welcome author Varina Denman — a first-time visitor in our café today! She’s sharing about Jilted – A Mended Hearts series novel. (You know the drill by now – be sure to stick around after our coffee break for our usual #Giveaway…)

If you’re new to the Video Café, Click HERE to see what it’s all about. But if you’ve been here before, you know how it works. Grab your morning brew so we can chat with Varina!

BONJOUR Varina — Welcome to your first morning chat in the café! We’re so glad you’ve come back to spend time with us. So, where’s your café today and just what are you drinking?

We love home offices — especially the ones that have lovely French-inspired sofas AND antique ice-boxes! (Most interesting cafe award? Perhaps.) Plus, you drink the GOOD STUFF… water. We’re friends already!

Now that you’ve shown us around your cafe, would you care to share a quick devotional about what Scripture is ministering to you right now and why?

I am so inspired over here! And you won’t believe this, but I had a conversation with our seven year-old just this morning, and it was about thinking on and speaking good things — straight from that verse!

We’re so ready to hear more about you, Varina. Can you share about your latest release — Jilted? (Plus, how gorgeous is this cover?!) And please tell us what up next for you too?

We’re so sorry to ask such a difficult question to a writer, but here we go: What’s your favorite book?

Oh! You’re the first author who selected this book + (amazing) author as their favorite. That clip made me feel such nostalgia… like library day just happened again! I am left SMILING over here because it’s such, such fun. 🙂

So for a bit more fun- to carry us into the rest of the day – what’s something your readers might not know about you?

Oh my goodness, but you are the sweetest thing! We are so glad you stopped by to spend time with us today. Please do come back with you next release in 2017 — we’ll want to hear what’s happening with you!

Since you probably remember reading them as a child, what’s your favorite Dr. Seuss book?

We’ll draw one name of those who comment on this post during the dates listed and announce the winner on this post 7/22/16. And be sure to keep the coffee brewing, because we’ll have more giveaways  in the café this summer — including some for the just released The Ringmaster’s Wife!

  1. Kristy, thanks so much for hosting my at the cafe today. This was by far the funnest interview ever ever, and now I’m wondering why all interviews aren’t like this. 🙂

  2. Thank you Kristy and Varina!
I love Dr. Seuss as well. Two of my favorites would have to be the A to Z book and Horton Hears a Who. I enjoyed reading the alphabet book to my children because my husband is a barber, and the B page says–“Barber, baby, bubbles & a bum-ble-bee.” we would always sing that line twice. “Barber, baby, bubbles & a bumblebee.” As for Horton, I have always had a passion for the pro-life movement. Whenever I read that story, it struck me as a beautiful sentiment, “A Person’s a Person, No Matter How Small.”

  3. I loved this episode of the cafe!
    1. I want Varina’s couch. It clashes with everything I own, but it’s perfect!
    2. Philippians 4:8 is going to be my memory verse for the new week.
    3. If I could clone myself, I would make my other self do all of my chores so that I had more time to read. Justified made my top 12 list of 2015 and I NEED to read Jilted.
    4. Yertle the Turtle is my favorite Seuss book (I do have a 50lb tortoise).
Too Many Daves sounds like a great book to reference the next time I have to name chickens. Although, like Daves mom, all of my girls come running when I call “Chick-chick”.
    5. Varina, I totally understand where you are coming from! I tell my husband that if he will go to the commissary I can get everything else I need from Amazon. There really is no reason for me to leave the farm. 🙂

    1. Amanda, my couch also clashes with everything I own, but I LOVE IT SO MUCH, so I tucked it away in my office along with Great Grandmother’s icebox (which I’m trying to protect from the family’s general wear and tear). 🙂 And Yertle the Turtle is another great one! We sound like kindred spirits … but I already suspected that.

  4. What a lovely interview! And how fun it is to find out more about different authors. My favorite Dr. Seuss books is probably Hop on Pop. I had to read that so many times to one of my children that I had it memorized. Jilted sounds so intriguing–I’d love to win a copy.

    1. Thanks, Winnie. 🙂 I read Dr Seuss to my kids too, and like you said, I think I had some of them memorized. But it’s funny because I never minded reading them over and over (maybe because of the rhyming), but there were other books that I hated to read more than once. Ha! There’s just something about Seuss!

  5. What a fun bunch if videos from Varina Denman ♡ I enjoyed listening to them. Funny, but I never heard if Dr. Suess’s Too Many Daves! What a lovely story. A mended heart series sounds great, I would enjoy reading these books. Thank you

    1. Glad you enjoyed the interview. 🙂 I hadn’t heard of Too Many Daves until I was grown. I found an old, worn out book of Seuss stories at a garage sale, and Dave was in it with other stories I had never heard of. Then when I started looking, I found even more Seuss treasures. 🙂

    1. I’m expecting my first grandchild in September. (Well, actually my daughter is.:) And I CANNOT WAIT to read books to him. It’s gonna be so much fun!

  6. My fave is ‘Green Eggs and Ham’ – love the rhyming and just the thought of green eggs and ham is laugh provoking!! Loved meeting you in the video, Varina!! Have read so many wonderful things about your writing, thanks for the opportunity to become acquainted with it!!

  7. While I love the rhymes and illustrations in all of the Dr. Seuss books, my favorite is Oh, The Places You’ll Go since it applies to all age groups and is an encouragement to venture forth in life. I really enjoyed the Video Cafe!

  8. Oh my goodness, what a wonderful cafe session!! Favorite Dr. Seuss book, that is a tough one. While I love the visuals and patterns in Green Eggs and Ham, my favorite story (that I still love to share) is The Sneetches. The lesson that it teaches is great for children and adults.. 🙂

    1. I LOVE THE SNEETCHES TOO! Oh, my goodness, there are just too many good ones. Lol. Gertrude McFuzz is a great one too. Thanks for stopping by the cafe, Cindy!
