“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. ‘I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.'”
—John 15:4-5 (NKJV)
Such a beautiful word — abide. In the Greek here, it means: “I stay. I remain. I wait for.”
It’s a challenge for me, waiting on God.
I’ve taken probably a dozen personality tests over the years and they all told me one thing: I’m an impatient soul. I thrive in environments of bustle and go, with the rolling out of projects and plans something I enjoy. But what if the plan… is to WAIT? (Crickets.) I struggle with that more than I care to admit most days. But how can we do anything apart from Him? How can we go, go, go on our own and expect to bear anything close to fruit?
I love this image because it’s vivid. The color leaps off the screen. It reminds me to refresh mid-week. To focus on, stay with, abide in Him — in every moment of the “go”, and that whether waiting or not, the fruit will come.
