Video Café + #Giveaway with Dana Mentink

1Bonjour – and welcome to the Video Café! I’m so happy to welcome first-time guest Dana Mentink to the café! She’s sharing about her new book, Fetching Sweetness: A Novel for Dog Lovers (Love Unleashed). And as usual, stick around after our coffee break for our #Giveaway…

If you’re new to the Video Café, Click HERE to see what it’s all about. But if you’ve been here before, you know how it works. Grab your morning cup of cozy and let’s chat with Dana!

BONJOUR Dana — Welcome to the café Dana! Let’s get right to it: Where is your café and just what are you drinking?  (And… who’s the guest you’ve brought with you?)

Thanks for bringing Junie along for the chat this morning! (Super cute name + doggie friend you have there.)

We have some reader questions today, which is always a fun part of these author chats. Kayla wants to know a bit about your research. Can you share about how you research for a novel? (Readers and writers alike want to know!) 🙂

How fun is that?! We’d love to see some photos of those apple orchard visits. Right, everyone?

Let’s hear from another reader friend next. Jane has a GREAT question about finding a work/life balance as a writer. (I’m listening close on this one… Please help us!)

Our next question is from Naomi. She wants to know if your recent trip to Alaska was for fun, for research — or both! Can you give us a little behind the scenes info on your recent adventures?

“…you’re never on vacation from yourself…” YES! I love research trips, but traveling can inspire those dangerous new story ideas to pop up all over the place. How would you have time to write them all?  😉

Okay — our final question is from Elizabeth. She has a question about plotting before you write. So, can you help us out here with series writing?

Thanks so much for taking the time to visit us in the Video Café today — especially for answering reader questions during our coffee break! We’re delighted to hear more about your author journey and look forward to hearing from your again soon.

Dana is pleased to offer a copy of Fetching Sweetness to one reader in the cafe.

This Giveaway is for continental US residents only (void where prohibited), and runs from 9/16/16 – 9/22/16 11:59pm EDT. Leave a comment with your email address and an answer to the following question from Dana’s café visit:

Dana talked about how she conducts research to write a novel — most recently visiting an orchard to learn about growing apples. If you could learn something new to incorporate into a novel, what would you want to try first?

We’ll draw one name of those who comment on this post during the dates listed and announce the winner on this post 9/23/16, so please come back and check to see if you’ve won!

Friday = almost the weekend… which is a good time to read!

To help boost our cozy weekend reading time, there’s the Book Look newsletter — a new Christian e-book sales newsletter from HarperCollins Christian Publishing! #ASparrowinTerezin is one of the first titles included in these e-Book deals — at $1.99 — but there’s a list of books available out there. Be sure to keep the coffee brewing, because we’ll have more giveaways  in the café as we mosey through autumn — including some for the March 2017 release of my next novel — The Illusionist’s Apprentice!

  1. I think i would love to see how a winery would go from growing the grapes all the way up to making the wine. It would be an amazing story with a little romance 🙂 I don’t write but I love stories set in that type of setting. Plus who doesn’t enjoy a nice glass of wine 🙂

  2. This is a rather hard question! After giving it some thought, what came to mind was researching about how our currency has changed through the 200 plus years of our country’s history. How that would be incorporated into a historical novel, I don’t know. I love to read books but don’t write them! I enjoyed the video chats with Dana and have put her dog series on my “want to read” list.

    1. CONGRATS, Pam! We drew names and you’re the winner of Dana’s book!!!! Please email your full name and street address to: kcambronauthor(at)gmail(dot)com to claim your book. Blessings!

  3. Fun video chat! I’d like to do some research in Switzerland. I visited there a few years ago and loved it. I’d like to know more about the history, the people, and the country.

  4. I would love to learn American Sign Language. It just seems so difficult but would make for a very inspiring story I think. I also enjoy those that worship using sign. It is so beautiful and expressive to watch!
