Video Café — Coffee Break + #Giveaway with author Lori Stanley Roeleveld

1Bonjour – and welcome back to the Video Café! I’m so happy to welcome first-time guest Lori Stanley Roeleveld to our café! She’s sharing about her new book, Jesus and the Beanstalk: Overcoming Your Giants and Living a Fruitful Life. And be sure to hang around after our coffee break for the usual #Giveaway…

If you’re new to the Video Café, Click HERE to see what it’s all about. But if you’ve been here before, you know how it works. Grab your morning cup of cozy and let’s spend our coffee break with Lori!

BONJOUR Lori — Welcome to the café! Let’s dive right in: Where is your café and just what are you drinking?

I had visions of you and your husband on HGTV, remodeling your lovely Rhode Island house. (We’d all love to see that, by the way…) 🙂

What Scripture is ministering to you right now, and why?

Love, LOVE this! I’ve been verse mapping through the Gospels, trying to get to know Jesus better. And about the desolate places… this is timely in so many ways. It’s incredible how one word – used again and again – can lead us to a deeper understanding in our faith walk with Jesus.

Can you tell us more about your most recent release — and what’s up next for you?

That’s such a huge question — Why are we not defeating more giants in our lives if there are such “giant-killers” in the Bible? And the references to fairy tales… my heart just skipped a few steps. 😉

Time for a reader question: “What’s something your readers don’t know about you?”

Oh, the historical writer’s heart! I get it. 🙂

And another reader question: “Why is your tagline Disturber of Hobbits”?

YES! You are speaking our language, Lori! It’s so, so difficult to lay down our control, our schedule, our will, right? And you’ve reminded us with such eloquence on the subject.

THANK YOU for stopping by to share your coffee break time with us today. What a blessing it’s been to chat with you — and get a little Hobbit talk in there too. 🙂

2Lori Stanley Roeleveld is a disturber of hobbits who enjoys making comfortable Christians late for dinner. She’s authors an unsettling blog and has written two unconventional non-fiction books and one perturbing novella. Her latest book, Jesus and the Beanstalk (Overcoming Your Giants and Living a Fruitful Life) just released from Abingdon Press. Look her up at:

Lori is pleased to offer a copy of Jesus and the Beanstalk: Overcoming Your Giants and Living a Fruitful Life to one reader in the cafe.

This Giveaway is for continental US residents only (void where prohibited), and runs from 10/2/16 – 10/6/16 11:59pm EDT. Leave a comment with your email address and an answer to the following question from Lori’s café visit:

Lori talked about how she walks through times of “giant slaying” in her new book. What giants are you slaying in your life, and what encouragement can you offer to other cafe readers who might be fighting the same battles?

We’ll draw one name of those who comment on this post during the dates listed and announce the winner on this post after 10/6/16, so please come back and check to see if you’ve won!

  1. Thanks for your words of wisdom, Lori! The question was about what giants I am slaying, and I am working very hard to lose weight–have lost 2 pounds each of the last two weeks. While it’s difficult for me to do so, I’ve found inspiration and help following the Weight Watchers diet and attending meetings. In fact, I recently downloaded the Weight Watchers app and took a class on how to use it. My favorite part of the app is being able to use my iphone to read barcodes on packaged foods to determine the number of Smart Points per serving; then if I plan to consume that food item, I can track the food into my daily food digest. Since I know that my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, I’m working on making it a more fit temple by dieting and exercising regularly.

    1. Suzanne, we must become friends! This is a giant that seems to rise again in my life on occasion. I had worked down to a healthy weight and now, following a job change, it’s back up – way up. So, two weeks ago, I also joined Weight Watchers and I love the app!
