“He appointed the moon for seasons;
The sun knows its going down.” —Psalm 104:19 (NKJV)
It’s turning colder outside our window.
The sky is a more constant shade of gray these days. Fires warm hearths. Stoves are heating tea kettles and pots are warming soup. And sweaters come out of the back of the closet to the front of the wardrobe once again. Winter warns us it’s a breath away.
I love the changing of seasons. And while it’s surreal to face growing older (with the passing of each year and the sprouting up of our children), I can’t help but find comfort in the shorter, colder days ahead.
This verse reminds me that when everything else changes, our God’s rhythm remains steadfast. His promises for us are unchanging, even with each new day. Each season. With each sunset and moonglow. Do you feel it? The warmth He’s gifted us in the midst of change? He’s still directing things while we slumber.
What a comfort it is that as the years roll and the calendar loses pages, He never tires!
Snuggle in, this warm Wednesday. Make a cup of tea, why don’t we? He’s got the changing of the guard under control.
