“God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.” —Acts 17:27 (NIV)
December brings the inevitable realization that the new year is fast approaching, and we need a look back before moving on into it. But I don’t want to sweep into 2017 just yet. There’s a good 3 weeks left in the year. That’s 24 days. Or 576 hours. 34,560 minutes. And if we’re really going to get wild, we could break it down to 2,073,600 seconds remaining until the clock strikes midnight. That’s a lot of seeking and finding time.
Remember Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:7-8? If we seek, we’ll find Him. If we ask, it will be given. And if we knock, we’ll find the door is opened. But dig a little deeper into the context of those words in Greek and you’ll find there’s a fervency to this.
The seek here is to “keep trying to obtain“.
The ask is to “call out“.
And the knock is to “strike“.
They’re not lackluster, these actions Jesus is calling us to. It’s not a glance of the eyes to LOOK for Him. It’s to search without ceasing, to call out to Him, and to strike that door with all we have until it opens!
We’ve got time left in 2016 — tons of it. There’s more than 2 million seconds to seek, and ask, and knock. Just imagine what He could do if we spent a fraction of what we have left focused on looking for Him! And now, imagine how much more He could do if we gave it ALL to Him. Every second. Each breath.
He’s never far away. That’s a promise to carry over into 2017, with a fresh year to look for Him.
Looking for Him today,
