“Then He said to them, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
—Luke 10:2 (NKJV)
We’ve tried (in vain!) to encourage our boys to save their money. If they want the latest NBA shoes, save the birthday checks and do some chores… and after their giving, the prized outcome could be theirs. But laboring without an immediate return is sometimes hard to wait on — isn’t it?
Harvest season may be a long way off on the calendar, but spring is the perfect time to start thinking about it. Why?
Because this is the time for sowing seeds. It’s the down payment time that if cared for, cultivated and properly attended to, leads to a yield of abundance down the road.
The sowing time is a beautiful step on the journey to the harvest.Think of friendships you’re investing in. Years maybe, of sharing your life with someone else. And maybe, once you’ve both done the hard work of relationship-building, the sharing of Christ will fit in at the right moment. And maybe one day after that, the harvest. The sowing of someone else’s heart will see the harvest of Jesus through you.
Don’t be discouraged if you can’t see the yield right away. And don’t think your work to love, and serve, and wait on someone else’s moment of “ready” goes unnoticed. The harvest is a beautiful time. Fix your eyes on that — on Him — because it will come. And keep doing the beautiful work through the spring.
